Elizabeth Keeney, LMSW, MPA received her MSW from Columbia University School of Social Work and her Masters in Public Administration from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs in 2009. During graduate school, she interned at The Bronx Defenders in the Family Defense Practice, the National Economic and Social Rights Initiative, and the International Harm Reduction Development Program of the Open Society Institute. Returning to The Bronx Defenders for many years as a social worker in criminal defense, Elizabeth eventually became the Managing Director of Social Work in 2014. Elizabeth trained and consulted nationally on the importance of social workers in defense work and specifically on the value of social work to the holistic defense team. Joining SWP's holistic team in the fall of 2016, Elizabeth continues her commitment and passion for interdisciplinary direct services work, in partnership with community, that protects human rights and fights criminalization and marginalization. In addition to her supervisory and management duties at SWP, Elizabeth provides trauma therapy and case management services to sex workers and survivors of trafficking. She is an External Supervisor/Advisor for Columbia Social Work students and an Academy Trainer for CUCS' Academy for Justice-Informed Practice.
Elizabeth is a native Vermonter and mother to two young members of the resistance.
